Subject: Microsoft, Java Date: Thu, 06 Aug 1998 14:02:16 -0400 From: Andy Deck To: antitrust@usdoj.gov DOJ As a professional in the computer industry, having taught computer science at numerous reputable colleges and universities, I urge you in the strongest terms to require Microsoft to support 100% pure Java. Their attempts to break Java's promise of platform (OS) independence is a serious threat to the development of ideas that manifest themselves through computer systems. This is not conventional free-speech territory. The framers of the constitution didn't know about this sort of thing. You need to be leaders and cut out this limp complicity that sees Microsoft as favoring competition. Give us a break! Cut off my knees and call me shorty!! Stop these bastards before they destroy a perfectly good language. Andy C. Deck Adjunct Professor, NYU andy.deck@nyu.edu
