The financial wealth of the top 1% of Americans now exceeds the combined net worth of the bottom 95%, according to New York University economist Edward Wolff. Gates' wealth alone exceeds the net worth of the bottom 45%. The personal assets of Microsoft co-founders Paul Allen and Gates plus Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffet exceed the combined gross domestic products of the world's 41 poorest countries, with their 550 million citizens.
